STORM - STUTTGART TRANSPORT OPERATION BY REGIONAL MANAGEMENT
STORM - the Stuttgart Transport Operation by Regional Management - was devised to demonstrate how far regional traffic problems can be solved by an integrated traffic management system. Numerous transport systems already generate a vast amount of traffic data, but problems occur with their data not being effectively linked together. Here, STORM has achieved a major breakthrough. Two years after its inauguration, STORM now provides real-time overall traffic information within the central STORM computer. By so doing, traffic participants can obtain all relevant information, either in advance or during their journey. Thus, choice of trip starting time, route, means of transport or driving behaviour can be improved - and in addition, traffic system capacity is used more efficiently.
