RADAR FOR AUTOMATIC INCIDENT DETECTION AND TRAFFIC ANALYSIS: THE BEATRICS SENSORS
In 1993-1994, THOMSON-CSF (Radar Division) has developed 2 versions of a radar for highway traffic management: the BEATRICS radar. The automatic incident detection radar is able to monitor a multilane motorway area over a distance of 100 meters through 1 km on both ways of traffic, to detect incidents directly (real time), as well as traffic congestion. The traffic analysis radar measures, from the side of the motorway and for each lane of traffic, the number of vehicles, the lorries ratio, the occupancy rate, the average speed and the intervehicles headway.
