CRUMB RUBBER: A LOOK AT SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE
Adding crumb rubber and extender oil additives to asphalt may significantly contribute to airborne emissions, according to a study completed by the Virginia Department of Transportation. No short-term health problems were discovered from use of the rubber and additives. In Kansas, the DOT observed crumb rubber performance for several years. They call the performance so far, mixed, but at least equivalent to conventional hot-mix in terms of reflective cracking.
