ROAD USER ERRORS AND ACCIDENT CAUSATION

An on-the-spot study of the road accidents in worcestershire was carried out by an interdisciplinary team. Data were collected on the accident itself and the circumstances surrounding it, driving history, biographical information, and visual factors. In the analysis of the data, the vehavior of each road user was assessed to determine whether or not he had made an error that had contributed to the accident. The criterion used for the determination of error was the highway code, any contravention of which was deemed to mean error. The errors were them classified on the basis of a simple model of a free-stage human decision making process, that is perception decision, and implementation.
