WISCONSIN RUBBLIZING REHAB PROJECT COMBATS REFLECTIVE CRACKING
Hot mix asphalt overlays are the most common type of pavement rehabilitation for portland cement concrete pavements. However, hot mix asphalt overlays are prone to reflective cracking. This article describes rubblization--the process of pulverizing old concrete pavement into small pieces to create an interlocking base material for a new pavement. Types of concrete pavement rubblization are described and an example of a rubblization rehabilitation project in Wisconsin is presented.
