VALIDATING A ROUTE GUIDANCE DATABASE
This paper describes the methods and testing procedures used to validate a digital map database. The different types of errors or invalid combinations of data that result in incorrect route generation or explication are described first. This is followed by a discussion of the various validation processes that test for and eliminate each type of error. The validation procedures discussed include pre-production field work, real-time edits, batch validation, peer review and field testing of the database. The audience for this paper includes current or potential users of a digital map database for applications such as route generation and route guidance.
