LAYING CONCRETE BLOCK PAVING

This description of the laying of purpose-made concrete blocks to form the surface of roads and other areas used by low-speed traffic or pedestrians, is intended to help the blocklaying team achieve a good rate of progress while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. The herringbone is identified as the most adaptable pattern, and the basic operations of paving are listed as the placing of the screed and laying course, placing the blocks, completing the edges, and vibrating the surface. The organization of paving (including the delivery of blocks and the size of the laying team) are outlined, and comments are made on edge restraint, subbase, laying course, surface course, edging and vibration.
