CHEMICAL TANKERS--DESIGN CONCEPTS AND OPERATION

Evolution of the chemical tanker has reached the point of complexity where ship designers, operators and charters must work together in ship planning. Some concepts of design development are presented with reference to regulatory restraints and charterer and operator requirement. Operating procedures must match the design of the chemical tanker. A system for cargo scheduling and transportation is outlined. The result is a chemical tanker whose design and operation are planned to complement each other to provide quality control of the cargo, safety of the vessel, its personnel and the environment in an economically profitable transportation system.
