RADIO FREIGHT TRANSPORT'S LONG-TERM FUEL PROBLEM

The author visted the American trucking associations in 1973 to study the probable effects of a long-term world oil shortage on road freight transport. He concludes that, at least until 1985, adequate conventional oil fuel will continue to be available in USA and UK for public road transport. However, the continuing depletion of world resources will mean that this will be at the expense of other users, including private-car-owners. As depletion proceeds, oil will become more closely controlled, and dearer. He recommends that the institute should play a major part in bringing the long-term oil supply situation to the notice of planners and policy makers. /Author/TRRL/
