ON THE COHERENCE OF GRID-GENERATED TURBULENCE
A theoretical approach has been presented which allows the coherence function to be calculated from any arbitrary power spectrum assuming the turbulence is homogeneous and isotropic. This is a first step towards developing realistic models of the coherence function for atmospheric turbulence. Comparisons between theory and experiment in the special case of grid generated turbulence agree reasonably well quantitatively. Furthermore, they illustrate the important roles of the macro- and micro-scales in any analytical model. An understanding of the atmospheric coherence function for use in the analysis of the dynamic response of instrumentation or slender structures. /Author/TRRL/
