INFLUENCE OF ROADS ON THE SURROUNDING NATURE - RESEARCH REPORT

VAEGARS INVERKAN PAA OMGIVANDE NATUR - FORSKNINGSREDOGOERELSE

This report entails a description of investigations performed within the project "The Influence of Roads on the Surrounding Nature", until 1974-12-31, the aims of which are to quantify the influence of roads on the surrounding nature, especially changes on plant- and animal life and water conditions and pollution effects in soils and waters. The project does not study the influence on urban surroundings, nor on pronounced agricultural areas. The natural conditions have been documented at selected observation stretches before road construction through geological and hydrological surveying, vegetational analysis and in some stretches testing for chemical analysis of soil and ground water. The main part of the field work has been done in the form of vegetational studies. Hydrological detail studies have been started in four areas of different soils. Zoological field investigations have been started in the form of registration of animals (mammals and birds) killed in traffic.
