GEOTECHNICAL AIRPHOTO INTERPRETATION IN SWEDEN. THE APPLICATION OF THE METHOD

The object of this investigation was to make an inventory of geotechnical airphoto interpretation activity in Sweden and to assemble experience of both the interpretation method as such and the use of the interpretation results in a planning context. The needs of research, development, and training were also to be ascertained. The investigation comprised an inventory by means of two questionnaires sent to people actively engaged in interpretation and to the users of geotechnical airphoto interpretation (mainly planners), and also a contact meeting for information and exchange of experiences concerning the interpretation method. The investigation shows that geotechnical airphoto interpretation results have been furnished for practically all types of physical planning. However, experience relating to the use of the interpretation results in a planning context has not yet been disseminated to an appreciable extent. The investigation also points to the need for A certain amount of standardisation and to the problems associated with various evaluation methods. Needs concerning research, development, and training are also described. The present publication also includes the results from the questionnaires the statements made at the contact meeting. /TRRL/
