THE FRANK CLOSE-FIT SHIP-MOTION COMPUTER PROGRAM

The report is a manual for The Frank Close-Fit Ship-Motion Computer Program. The input and output schemes and the theory are explained in detail. The program computes pitch and heave waves. The regular wave responses are computed according to an improved version of the Korvin-Kroukovsky strip theory. The irregular seaway is represented by the Pierson-Moskowitz Sea Spectrum and statistical response parameters are computed for pitch and heave as well as for absolute and relative vertical displacment, velocity and acceleration at any point along the length of the ship. A comparison is made between theory and experiment of the pitch and heave amplitudes and agreement is satisfactory for both common cruiser-stern ships and high-speed destroyers and also for hulls with large bulbs and sonar arrays.
