EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR SCENIC LOOP TOURS

The main objective of this research was to develop criteria for designating scenic loop tours and to use these criteria in evaluating the existing scenic loop tours to determine the effectiveness of the criteria. Chapter I provides an introduction. Chapter II includes the pertinent background related to scenic loop tours in Wyoming and across the United States, a brief description of scenic byways and scenic loop tours in Wyoming, and highlights of a nationwide scenic loop tours survey performed as part of this project. Chapter III includes a description of the components and methodology employed in this study. The study included evaluating existing loop tours by collecting historical accidents and traffic volume data and evaluating existing loop tour signs. Chapter IV describes the evaluations of the Cheyenne and Oregon Trail Loop Tour and the Base of the Bighorns Loop Tour by using the criteria developed in Chapter III. Finally, Chapter V contains a summary of the findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
