CONSTRUCTION FACILITIES AUDIT: QUALITY SYSTEM-PERFORMANCE CONTROL
The construction facilities audit--sometimes referred to as the field review--is a tool designed to determine the effectiveness of a complex quality-management system in use. The audit is performed by independent, experienced engineers on work under construction. Elements of the work in progress are checked at the site for compliance with project requirements. When nonconformities or project defects are identified, engineers will determine if these construction problems impact constructability or facility performance. This article takes the reader through a construction facilities audit of resident engineering field offices of the Arizona Department of Transportation. In addition, recommendations are made regarding the use of these audits.
