FUEL CONSUMPTION PATTERN OF NEW TECHNOLOGY VEHICLES
This paper presents the results of a study of the steady-state fu consumption of three types of new technology vehicle: (1) Maruti (2) light commercial vehicle; (3) multi-axled vehicle. The engine each vehicle was tuned and brought to a good condition before tes The tyre pressure was brought up to the manufacturer's specificat and a fuel meter was installed in the fuel line. A 1km stretch o road was selected, and experiments were done at speeds between 10 and 100kph, with the top speed depending on the vehicle type, the characteristics and the load carried. A steady speed was maintai in each case, and fuel readings were taken at the ends and midpoi the test section. Tables give details of the vehicles and test s used for the experiments. For each vehicle type, parameters were fitted to a theoretical function for fuel consumption, and compar were made between observed and theoretical values of fuel consump The effects of load and gradient on fuel consumption were measure
