TRAFFIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR PRESCHOOL AGED CHILDREN AND CHILDREN STARTING SCHOOL
This study is a continuation of a earlier investigation made at the Department of Psychology into the traffic behaviour and education of preschool aged children. The purpose was, on the basis of film and slide material developed earlier, to plan a traffic education programme for preschool aged children, to be used jointly by parents and teachers. The purpose also was to test the feasibility of such co-operation in view of the future preliminary school system and the first class of today's comprehensive school. In the opinion of the working group, the parents participation is of prime importance in the development of systematic traffic education. The first section of this report deals with an experiment in which the instruction programme implemented by parents and teachers was tested in practice. At the end of the section, some aspects noticed in the experiment about arranging traffic education for preschool age children and children starting school are presented. The second part of the report forms the instruction programme for parents and teachers. An essential part of the programme is formed of a series of slides. Combined with the series, the second section of the report is a complete instruction package for training preschool aged children and children starting their school.
