BRIDGE DECKS CONSTRUCTED USING WELDED STEEL GRID
The development and use of a new method of constructing bridge decks using an unfilled, open steel grid composite with a reinforced concrete slab is presented. Starting in 1982, exodermic deck was conceived, tested, installed, and used. In late 1991, a change in the method of construction of this bridge deck type (involving the casting of the concrete slab in-place after the steel grid has been put down) has made it applicable to a much broader range of projects, including redecking.
