SURVEY OF EXISTING POLICIES AND PRACTICES FOR ROAD DESIGN ELEMENTS AND TRAFFIC OPERATIONS

The Survey of Existing Policies and Practices on road safety has been conducted for the Road and Motor Vehicle Traffic Safety Branch of the Ministry of Transport. The main objective of the survey has been to provide current information for the Roads and Transportation Association of Canada's Project Committee on Road Safety and to assist the Committee and the Ministry of Transport in identifying those elements that can be improved and those elements that require more study and research. The information contained in this report is essentially a summary of the data furnished by roadway agencies from across Canada in response to the Survey Questionnaire, distributed in July of 1972. As in the questionnaire, the report uses the R.T.A.C. classification for urban and rural roads throughout. Wherever practical, tables are used to permit quick comparisons to be made. In areas where tables could not be used, a brief statement outlining the agency's practice is given. /RTAC/
