BERTH CONTROL
The factors that have led to a greater accceptance of berthing aid systems by the tanker market than by dry bulk or container ports are explained. Some of the different systems that are available are briefly characterized. It is noted that most manufacturers believe that future sales will come from the container market as it comes to be recognized that berthing aid systems quicken the berthing process and reduce fender maintenance costs, the number of tugs used, and the number of dents in the sides of ships.
