THE SHIPOWNER AND THE ENVIRONMENT--SEAFOX
SeaFox, a simple but comprehensive fuel treatment system assembled into a single module, has now been completely and successfully tested in service at sea. A brief review is given of the system, emphasizing the primary (or combustion stage) methods that help to reduce emissions. A comparative experiment to determine the effectiveness of SeaFox was performed on the engines of two sister vessels, one of which did not have SeaFox. Various information such as wear data and particle deposits were taken over a period of three years, and results show that the ship fitted with SeaFox sustained less wear and accumulated lower particle deposits. In confirmation of previous study results on SeaFox, it is proven that the system's emulsification, homogenization and chemical treatment procedures successfully reduce engine fouling and enhance environmental protection.
