SPEEDING AHEAD IN WEST NORWAY
Along Norway's long and island-studded coast, the fast ferry has been a common means of passenger transport for many years. Monohulls and catamarans are both widely used, and the surface effect ship is also becoming popular. R&D work in the field, some of which is backed by a substantial state investment, is largely aimed at achieving even faster speeds and better seakeeping qualities. Some of the main efforts and their design results are described, and profile and general arrangement drawings are shown for several proposed vessels.
