ON THE FORM FACTOR ESTIMATION FOR A BARGE HULL, FROM A "GEOSIM" ANALYSIS
The calculation of barge hull resistance according to the ITTC (International Towing Tank Conference) '78 has proven unreliable because of the high values of the form factor. A survey was therefore carried out by means of a series of trials for four geometrically similar barge models to measure the scale effect on form factors. Because of the high resistance induced by the flow separation, the results disagree at times with those that would be obtained using classical theories. Recent calculation proposals that could solve these problems are examined. The resistance increase due to the application of appendages is also discussed on the basis of certain procedures that have recently been developed.
