THE ROLE OF FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS IN STREET LIGHTING
DE ROL VAN FUNCTIONELE EISEN BIJ DE WEGVERLICHTING
The functional, visual and technical lighting requirements for public lighting are discussed. The main functional requirement is the improvement of the information. The visual requirements can be deduced from the functional requirement to follow the road and to avoid a collision. From a classification of roads an attempt is made to quantify the technical lighting requirements. National and international recommendations are given and some principles of lighting and glare are explained. The covering abstract for the conference is IRRD abstract no. 211744 /TRRL/
