DESIGN OF CONCRETE BRIDGES BY MINI-COMPUTER IN INTERACTIVE MODE
A minicomputer (suitable for design office use) is described which, although having reduced computing capability compared with a larger machine, offers many advantages of economy and flexibility. Details are given of the system which consists of the data general 1200 central processor which has 28 k of 16 bit word magnetic storage with a 256 k word fixed head disc. These are adequate for the design techniques which have been developed using overlayed Fortran programs as the software basis. Records of designs produced on this system consist of a permanent copy of the teletype conversation which may be augmented by permanent copies of screen displays. The program operation is detailed, and programs to assist in design of deck slabs, prestressed concrete beams, and complex structures are described. Possible analysis and computations are also outlined.
