A CENTRALISED, AUTOMATED SYSTEM FOR HIGHWAY DESIGN AND DRAFTING
Details are outlined of the system for which the software consisted of I.B.M. Calculation programmes, Contraves drafting file generators, and the framework program linking both. The I.B.M. draft program is a complex of 17 different programs each of which is allocated to a perticular calculation process. The drafting file generator converts the calculations fed into it, into the format of the General Drafting Program for the coragraph. the framework program is divided into 4 main parts; the preliminary program, the system generation program, the test program and the storage program. The system flow sheet is presented. Programs exist for underground surveying, land registry etc., so planners and public utilities may see the effect a particular development will have. The flexibility of the equipment is such that all the various plans can be superimposed or intermingled giving a composite resultant.
