MARINE AUTOMATED WEATHER STATION (MAWS) FOR SHIPS AT SEA
It is proposed that the technology and equipment developed by the National Data Buoy Center for use on its weather buoys and by the Coastal Marine Automated Network be modified for shipboard use as the Marine Automated Weather Station (MAWS). MAWS would automatically format and transmit ship weather reports every hour, 24 hours a day. The data developed would greatly advance marine meteorology and greatly increase safety on the seas.
