OPTIMISATION OF ROAD ALIGNMENT
Optimizing a layout lies in determining the values of the parameters of the semifree elements to make the end point determinded from the value of the parameters conincide with the imposed end point, and to optimize a cost function depending on the parameters. A review of optimizing criteria cover aspects of horizontal alignments, vertical profile, and generalities. Details are given of the assumptions and development of the mathematical formulation, as well as the sequential linear programming. The quadratic programming approach and the choice of the basic algorithm are also covered. Examples of application are given.
