MAPPING FROM EARTH SATELLITES

The technical, economic, political and legal aspects are considered of this method which enables the mapping of a width of from 2 to 9 times that which is usually surveyed on the ground by photogrammetric methods at from one-half to one-eighth of the cost of ground survey. The main factors that must be considered in flight planning for mapping purposes are set forth, and the acquisition and retrieval of earth satellite imagery is detailed. Topographic mapping requirements are discussed, as well as the different aspects (planimetric detail and heights) of such maps. The economic, political, and legal astects are considered as important as the technical aspects of the subject.
