APPLICATION OF LASERS IN SHIPBUILDING MEASUREMENTS

This document is a review of the early stages of laser technology in Poland as applied to measurement of large ship structures. As a result, a considerable portion of the paper focuses on the production difficulties of the helium-neon laser, its limited suitability and its prohibitive cost. Results from several theoretical and experimental studies show that, despite these problems, the future of shipbuilding metrology points to the popular utilization of highly accurate, laser-based measurement instruments.
