DESIGN GUIDE FOR SHIP STRUCTURAL DETAILS
This report provides the designer with a guide to the selection of structural details for both commercial and naval ships. Based on a combination of satisfactory service experience and reasonable fabrication costs, the details in the guide represent the best of the many arrangements of shipbuilding structural members currently in use. Numerous tables, graphs, and illustrations showing the details and their performances are included for the benefit of the designer. A simple method for determining approximate construction time for a wide range of detail sizes is presented. Details that have not performed well are also discussed in order to illustrate problem areas to avoid.
