SORBENT PERFORMANCE STUDY FOR CRUDE AND REFINED PETROLEUM PRODUCTS
Sorbents have elicited considerable interest among those concerned with environmental safety, as they have been widely used in the containment and cleaning up of oil spills on water and land. Sorbent literature sources are reviewed in this presentation, with additional information taken from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contracts. This paper also contains information on various types of currently available sorbents, sorbent performance criteria, tests performed in previous studies, guidance on sorbent application, and profiles of generic types of organic, inorganic, and synthetic sorbents. A brief discussion is appended regarding the use of sorbents on hazardous substances.
