THE SKILLS SHORTAGE
It has become increasingly difficult for shipping and ship management companies worldwide to obtain qualified complements for their vessels. The author addresses this issue with respect to its implications for the design of future vessels. In particular, he focuses on the issue of whether the emphasis should be on more technology or more crew, explaining why he feels that neither, alone, can solve the problem.
