DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF DECK STRUCTURES FOR RO/RO SHIP BY MULTILEVEL STRUCTURE TECHNIQUE

A three-level system for the structural optimization of complex ship structures is proposed. The top level covers the assembly of all substructures to determine the displacement and response sensitivities of the master nodes. The middle level is for the subproblem of the two-dimensional plane frame or of the grillage membrane in order to optimize the sectional value of structural members. The bottom level is for the subproblem of a simple beam or plate panel under given boundary conditions to find the optimum shape and dimensions of structural members. Each substructure can be separately optimized. The substructuring sensitivity technique can be used for the determination of search direction and for the approximation of optimum step size. As an example of the system's application, three different kinds of deck structures for a ro/ro ship are optimized.
