STEADY DRIVERS
The cornerstone of Czechoslovak Ocean Shipping's satcom-based fleet management system is a Sait TC 1171 communications computer that is based upon an IBM PC PS2-30 personal computer. This article is dedicated to describing one of the Sait's most remarkable features, a special dual disk drive with plug-in cassette. The drive works on an interesting technical principle, involving Bernoulli's equation, that stabilizes the spinning flexible data disk relative to the head. This makes the drive ideal for use in inherently unstable situations--for example, aboard a ship at sea.
