GUARANTEED SHIP PASSING
This article reviews methods of obtaining a reliable evaluation of dangerous approaches of one's own ship and an oncoming ship, taking account of uncoordinated and delayed maneuvers by the oncoming ship that lead to conflicted situations. Differential games theory is therefore used. It involves the construction of a hazardous approach zone around one's own ship, in a differentiated manner, for each oncoming ship; the plotting of a guaranteed passing course relative to each oncoming ship; and the definition of a safe course relative to all oncoming ships through determination of the intersection of the separate plots.
