DECIDING TO BECOME A FEEDER PORT COULD BE YOUR BEST BET
Ports in less developed countries may well come to realize that it would be in their countries' best interests to concentrate on becoming feeder ports and give up ambitions of attracting deep-water container and break-bulk vessels or even of creating transshipment terminals. Following a brief review of existing port systems, the feeder concept is explained and principles, pros and cons and recent developments are all discussed. The author concludes that further feeder developments are to be expected.
