SOME PROBLEMS OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
The first part of this paper deals with the inspection, maintenance and renovation of port structures in secondary ports of developing countries, where a low level of maintenance should be anticipated and steel structures avoided. The second part deals with a combined water and land transport system along a large, partially navigable river, discussing the European experience, new proposals for Africa, whether ISO containers could be floated to their destination, and the use of small-sized container barges.
