REMOTE CONTROL AND AUTOMATION OF UNMANNED LOCKS. APPLICATION ON THE PADAN-VENETIAN WATERWAY
This paper deals with the remote and automatic control of unmanned locks. The purposes of such control are the reduction of operating costs, fewer breakdowns and the improved collection of statistical data. The application discussed is that in Italy's Padan-Venetian waterway. The introduction of the automated system has allowed the number of personnel to be cut from twenty-four to six, and by eliminating many operator errors, has also improved operational safety.
