This article describes the buildup and organization of China's shipbuilding industry, which has advanced over a decade from being practically nonexistent to occupying a major place in the world shipbuilding league. The article also discusses various problems that face the industry, sometimes affecting relations with customers, and highlights the difficulties confronting Western clients or partners in China.
