IMPROVING OPERATIONAL ECONOMY
This paper describes CONSOMETER 882, an online ship performance monitoring system developed by CETENA (Italian Ship Research Center), initially for recording the performance of merchant ships and naval vessels during their sea trials. CONSOMETER is a microprocessor-based system designed to measure, process and display data relating to overall vessel efficiency and main engine and propeller inputs and outputs. It allows the determination of optimal trim, hull tuning in heavy weather conditions, and the optimization of drydocking intervals.
