FUZZY OPTIMUM DESIGN OF THE TANKER MIDSHIP SECTION WITH STATIC AND DYNAMIC CONSTRAINTS
In ship construction, steel casts are primarily dependent upon the design of the midship section. This paper presents the Bound Search Method, based on fuzzy decision making, as a way of solving fuzzy optimization problems for such ship structures. As an example, a tanker midship section is designed using the method. It is thereby shown that the Bound Search Method is convenient to use and can save steel material. The application of fuzzy set theory to structural optimization may therefore be a useful contribution to the design philosophy of ship structures.
