ELEMENTS OF INTERACTIVE JOINT SHIP CAD SYSTEM
Ship CAD systems used in the Soviet domestic shipbuilding industry are mainly meant for use on YeS computers, and their modules function in batch mode. Information preparation and input is complicated and unautomated, preventing the designer from quickly altering data, particularly when working with graphics. A major shortcoming of the systems is their use of foreign peripherals. Pioneering work on developing first-phase (scale model) components for an interactive computer-aided ship design system to be totally of USSR manufacture is described. The interactive nature of the subsystem is achieved through a branched multilevel menu and the extensive use of peripherals for inputting and displaying graphics information. This simplifies and shortens the time for information input, output and conversion.
