EXPERT SYSTEM FOR ON-LINE FAULT DIAGNOSTICS

This paper describes MAREX (Marine Power Plant Expert), a prototype expert system designed to diagnose and explain the possible causes of failures in a shipboard power plant, including the ship electric power plant distribution system and the steam-raising plant. The tool used for development was Texas Instrument's Personal Consultant. The project's purpose is to build a working prototype that can be further refined for shipboard implementation.
