WORKING ON THE INFLATABLE COLLAR
Several companies are working on the concept of an inflatable collar to keep a damaged ro/ro ship afloat. Some practical trials have actually been carried out by Seabass (UK) Ltd, whose name is an acronym for Ships Emergency Automatic Buoyancy and Stability System. The original market was seen as being fishing vessels, but several ro/ro-ferry and freight-ro/ro disasters have made these classes a priority.
