IS A USER-FRIENDLY TURBOCHARGER POSSIBLE?
The requirements that modern turbochargers must meet are first outlined. The prime features of the MAN B&W- manufactured axial NA-type turbocharger and radial-flow NR-type turbocharger ranges are described. They include: advanced aerodynamic components; uncooled, but effectively heat-insulated hot gas casings; an inboard bearing arrangement; and lubrication from the engine system. The author then discusses six reasons why he feels justified in claiming that these turbochargers are extremely user-friendly.
