MERCHANT SHIPS TO WARSHIPS
There are some areas of ship design and operation where a degree of compliance with service requirements for defense readiness may be built-in from the start. Design and operational features that should be considered at the initial planning stage, with the possibility of a quick conversion in mind, are length, beam, draught, hull form, speed and power, ramps, decks, transverse bulkheads, cargo handling equipment, stability, and endurance.
