THE MODERNISATION OF SHIPYARD MANAGEMENT AND PRODUCTION
The author discusses what European shipyards must aim for if they are to reestablish their competitive position. He recommends that their main strategy be directed toward producing technically advanced vessels having attractive commercial and operational features; that there be a more active transfer of new methods and new technologies into ship production, including computer applications; that there be more R&D within design and production methodology; that weather-independent productions processes be increased; and more. Based on his own experience, he feels that cost savings of 20 to 25% are a realistic target.
