METALLIC GLASS CABLE PROVIDES TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH
The characteristics of cables made of metallic glass are described. Metallic glass wires have a tensile strength of nearly 600,000 pounds per square inch and when immersed in water can remain strong, tough and corrosion resistant. At one-fourth the cost of competitive materials, metallic glasses are the single most promising type of material for new mooring cables. They also offer great promise as a material for tow cables, which normally are subject to corrosion.
