IN SEARCH OF EASTERN PROMISE
This is a commentary on a report entitled "Far East Port Survey" that has been published by the Office of Transportation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The primary purpose of the report is to identify port impediments to the handling of U.S. agricultural products transported in bulk or in unitized shipments to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China and the Philippines. Some of the issues that it raises, however, which are described, are of more general interest and could be applied to the transportation and handling of a wide range of cargoes and commodity types.
